Have you heard about Little Life Long Learners?
We interviewed one of The Alphabet Tree’s best selling resource authors, Casey from Little Life Long Learners. Read all about her store, what makes her so successful and some great tips for teachers who are considering making some extra money selling resources.
Hi Casey, tell us a bit about yourself and your store
My name is Casey, the Teacher-Author from Little Lifelong Learners.
I’m an early years teacher from Brisbane. I am super passionate about learning through play and hands-on experiences, so you’ll find lots of resources for play-based learning in my store.
My integrated science units are full of hands-on lesson ideas with printables to match. You’ll also find packets for dramatic play, behaviour management and fun games for your little learners to play!
How many years have you been working in Education (in any aspect)?
I graduated with honors in 2011 with a Bachelor in Primary Education.
How many years have you been creating teaching resources?
Just as long! Though I didn’t start taking it seriously until 2015 and haven’t looked back!
What inspired you to become a teacher/seller/author? We would love to know a little bit about your background into starting out as a teacherpreneur.
My mum! She had been selling teaching resources on Ebay for many years and inspired me to give it a go too. I never imagined I’d be able to do it full-time back then! When I fell pregnant with our first child, I lost my teaching contract so I decided to focus on my printables!
What advice would you give to anyone who is considering selling resources on the Alphabet Tree?
I think the biggest thing that has helped me to become successful with my business is to chunk out dedicated time. I have an ideal work week schedule on my desk and try to stick to it the best I can with three little people around. I generally only work Monday to Wednesday and try not to work at night – I need my down time as well. I think it’s also important to invest in your business – whether that’s through quality clipart or business courses. Investing in yourself is so important if you want to see growth.
What programs do you use to create your resources?
- Powerpoint
- Photoshop
- iPhone and IPad apps
What advice would you give to new teachers who are first starting out?
Don’t rush the academics. Focus on your behaviour management strategies and the rest will come a lot easier. It’s impossible to teach if you don’t have that solid foundation of trust and respect first.
