Have you ever used a rubric when assessing your students? There are so many opportunities for students to work on design in every curriculum area and rubrics are perfect when you complete an amazing lesson with your class and then wonder how you can grade them on the design.
Most teachers dread the marking part, so we made a rubric to simplify things for busy teachers such as yourselves – Just highlight or tick a box!
The rubric has been broken down into 6 categories and has an optional sneaky challenge!
How it works
Investigation
Does the student
- Identify the problem.
- Brainstorm materials.
- Draw a design.
Design
Does the student
- Develop, and communicate design ideas and decisions using appropriate technical term
- Draw sketches that include labels.
Plan
Does the student
- Plan a sequence of production steps when making the design.
Create
Does the student
- Follow their plan.
- Evaluate the plan.
- Justify any changes they make to the plan while they are creating the design.
Evaluate
Does the student
- Explain how the design could be improved as a result of these evaluations.
Safety
Does the student
- Select and use materials, tools and equipment using safe work practices to make designed solutions
